Prof. Wensheng Wei Joined BIOPIC

Professor Wensheng Wei of College of Life Sciences, Peking University, joined BIOPIC at the end of 2014 as Principle Investigator.

Born in 1969, Dr. Wei received his BS in Biochemistry from Department of Biology of Peking University in 1991, and PhD degree from the Mississippi State University in genetics in 1999. After completing his postdoctoral researches at Stanford University he returned to PKU to start his own group.

Wei group is interested in studying the molecular mechanism of human infectious diseases, especially the host response to microbial pathogenicity. The combination of forward and reverse genetic means is employed, often in a high-throughput fashion, for the identification of host genes of interest. Efforts have also been put into the development and application of eukaryotic gene editing techniques, such as TALENs and CRISPR/Cas9 systems. The current focuses of diseases include Clostridium difficile infections, anthrax toxicity, HCV and HBV.

Dr. Wei is recipient of multiple awards, including the Best Teacher of College of Life Sciences in 2010, Dongbao Fellowship of PKU in 2012, Bayer Investigator Award and Roche Chinese Young Investigator Award in 2014

Before joining BIOPIC, Wei group has conducted various collaborative projects with BIOPIC groups and produced several publications. With the formal appointment of Professor Wei, more significant results are expected in the future.
