Abstract:
Dr. Yin Shen obtained a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences and Technologies from Nanjing University and a Ph.D. degree in Human Genetics in 2008 from UCLA, studying epigenetic regulation in stem cells. She did her postdoc training at UCSD, studying cis-regulatory elements in the mammalian genome. Dr. Yin Shen has been a member of the Institute for Human Genetics and the Department of Neurology at UCSF since 2015. Since being established in 2015, Shen lab has published papers on Nature, Nature Genetics, Science Advances, etc.
The Shen lab is interested in investigating fundamental mechanisms of transcriptional control underlying cellular function. They utilize human pluripotent stem cells to model development and diseases as well as innovative genomic and genetic tools to investigate how regulatory elements affect gene expression. Specifically, they focus on elucidating the causal relationship between genetic and epigenetic variations in regulatory sequences (e.g., enhancers) in the context of development and diseases, and how these factors interplay to control gene regulation in mammalian cells.
